I became a lawyer because I wanted to stand up for people who weren't being heard. Compassion and empathy are two of my strongest characteristics. I come from a working-class background. I am the first attorney in my family. My grit and determination has carried me to where I am. This same grit and determination will be put to use for your benefit. With the assistance of my own family and friends, professors and mentors, I have established a successful 30-year career as an attorney. I’ve known since elementary school that I had the ability to articulate with eloquence and passion. I also knew that I had the passion to champion someone else's cause with vigor and authenticity. For the last 30 years, I've been an attorney doing just that - giving all of myself to my clients and helping give them the confidence and the ability to persevere during some of the hardest times of their lives. I hope my clients feel that I care about them as if they're a part of my own family. I pride myself on my reliability.
Since I'm a solo practitioner, when a client calls, they're not going to get an associate unfamiliar with their case speaking to them. They're going to get me. One of my priorities is to respond to client communication as quickly as I can.
I have diverse, yet deep experience in many aspects of Family Law. I represent spouses in divorces. I handle complex equitable distribution matters. I am involved in many high conflict custody battles representing parents and, in other cases, children. In fact, a great deal of my work is representing children. I understand, based on decades of experience and training as well as my own abilities, the varying perspectives that children may have. I've handled child protective matters as a prosecutor as well and as a defense attorney for a very long time. In fact, I began my career as a frontline attorney working for NYC’s Administration For Children’s Services (“ACS”). I then became an Assistant Supervising Attorney of an office of ACS attorneys at a very young age. I am on trial in Family Court and Supreme Court nearly every week. My trial experience is extensive. And my writing is well respected.
My clients and I settle without trial when appropriate and with the client’s authorization. I will fight to the end for you. I do have a bit of the street fighter in my makeup. However, I'm a polished, smooth professional. I am determined to get the best outcome for each of my clients. I am respected in the community of family law attorneys, and many attorneys rely upon me to help them with their tougher cases.
Finally, I'm happy to say I still keep in touch with many of my clients.
I look forward to meeting you and working with you as a team in this challenging time in your life and the life of your family.
Alan Fried, Esq.
